The Spin’Bud project followed the Creative Conscience: Education 2024 competition brief. The goal was to design anything to help education across the globe, wether it be to allow better access to it or render it better. Following my Zenimals project, I wanted to carry on designing for the neurodivergent community, this time for children and try to give them access to a more inclusive education.

In order to help the neurodivergent children’s education, which is a massive field, I had to focus on one problem to solve. Following research, surveys and interviews, I discovered through multiple sources that neurodivergent children tend to bottle up their emotions instead of externalising them, which is the number 1 cause of conflict in the classroom. I figured I could create a tool to help fix that problem. Following further research, I came across a case study that proved that these children connect much more through a puppet speaker than a human speaker.

Putting all of the gathered information together, I ended up designing an emotional regulation puppet, with a spinning face and a movable body to showcase which emotion the child is feeling. That way, with the help of the teacher, the child can externalise whichever complicated emotion they are feeling instead of ignoring it because they cannot analyse what it is.
